Google Partners with Miami Schools to Bring AI into Classrooms and Careers
Miami is officially on the map as one of America’s leading AI education hubs. Google has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) and Miami Dade College (MDC) to expand access to AI tools, certifications, and workforce training across the district.
Under the new program, 100,000 high school students will gain access to Gemini for Education — Google’s AI-powered learning platform. At the same time, 18,000 teachers will complete Google’s Generative AI for Educators course and earn Gemini Academy certifications designed to help them safely integrate AI tools into the classroom.
According to Ben Gomes, Google’s Chief Technologist for Learning and Sustainability, the company is working closely with local educators to pilot AI solutions for personalized learning and operational efficiency.
Personalized Learning for Every Student
M-DCPS will test a new “digital learning wallet” system that uses AI to track individual student progress and tailor lessons to their needs. Another pilot will help administrators use AI analytics to improve data-driven decision-making.
Google is also collaborating with TED-Ed, Education Through Music, and YouTube artists to create new digital music education resources for grades 6–12 — all built using Gemini Canvas.
Superintendent Dr. Jose L. Dotres shared that this partnership gives students “a safe and responsible way to enrich, accelerate, and enhance their world of learning.”
MDC Leads AI Workforce Development
Beyond K–12, Miami Dade College will play a central role in building an AI-ready workforce through Google’s AI for Education Accelerator. The college will provide free AI training, professional certificates, and Google Cloud labs, ensuring students and professionals alike can access cutting-edge skills.
Google is also investing $2 million into the National Applied AI Consortium (NAAIC) to expand mentorship programs across 30 community colleges in 20 states, including MDC.
As Dr. Madeline Pumariega, MDC’s president, put it: “This transformative funding from Google marks a major milestone in our mission to democratize AI training and prepare students for the jobs of tomorrow.”
A Major Step for Miami’s Innovation Ecosystem
This collaboration cements Miami’s position as a national leader in AI education and workforce innovation. With partnerships spanning K–12 classrooms to college career programs, Google’s investment ensures South Florida becomes a model for integrating AI into learning and economic opportunity.
As more students and educators adopt Gemini tools and AI certifications, the next generation of Miami’s workforce will be equipped to lead in the age of automation and technology — not just consume it.
Miami’s classrooms aren’t just teaching about the future anymore — they’re building it.
